Memorial Services

As an Independent Celebrant, my most important role is to take the time to listen to you and to create the personal service that you want for your loved one.

It may be that you prefer a traditional crematorium or graveside service, or you may prefer a woodland burial or other outdoor service. You may wish to have a religious service or a non-religious service. Whatever you choose, I will work with you to ensure that your loved one has the service that they deserve. I normally work in the Worcestershire and Herefordshire areas but am happy to travel further afield if that is what you need me to do. How do I support you?

Normally I’m contacted by your Funeral Director who passes me your details so that I can contact you, but you may also contact me directly. I normally contact you within 24 hours of receiving your details.

Once we make contact, I’ll arrange to visit you in person shortly afterwards, or if you need me to contact you via Zoom or telephone, that can also be arranged. Our meeting will be an opportunity to talk about your loved one and the type of service that you would like me to create for you. If we need more than one meeting, or you need me to meet other members of the family, then I’m happy to do that for you at a time to suit your needs.

A funeral or memorial service normally includes a eulogy, to celebrate the life of your loved one, and the service may also include personal tributes, readings, poems and music. I will support you to choose the content that best reflects your loved one and helps to celebrate their life. If you would like me to write the eulogy and read it for you, I will do that, or I will support you to write it and read it yourself. I know how hard it can be to write down your memories and your farewell words, but most people find it comforting and want to have the opportunity to contribute to the service. Whatever you choose, it’s my role to support you and guide you through everything.

If you wish, I will also support you by creating the Order of Service or supporting you to create your own. These can be created to reflect your loved one and may include images and short verses together with the service content, music or hymn words.

Once the service content has been agreed with you, I will remain in contact with you and your Funeral Director to make sure that everything is in place for the service. I know how important it is for you to be reassured that everything is arranged so that your loved one has the service that you have chosen.

After the service, I really hope that families will keep in touch with me. It is often difficult for me to just walk away once a service has been completed, as I feel that I have become part of your family for just a short while and have got to know your loved one. If you want to keep in touch with me, then please do.

Scattering or Burial of Ashes

Once you have your loved ones’ ashes returned to you, you may decide that you wish to inter or scatter their ashes and would like to acknowledge this phase of the mourning process with another short ceremony, to say that final farewell. I will work with you to craft an extra service for you to say farewell.
